Ghana’s Faith Leaders Unite: Bishop Lawson Issues Peace Ultimatum
Bishop Dr Agyei Lawson, Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, issued a peace ultimatum to faith leaders on Friday, August 14, urging them to promote tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence amidst rising religious tensions in Ghana.

Ghana is a nation blessed with religious diversity, and our ability to live together in peace remains one of our greatest strengths, Bishop Lawson said. He emphasized the influence religious leaders wield over their congregations and communities, carrying a significant responsibility to promote understanding, tolerance, and unity.
As religious leaders, we occupy positions of tremendous influence in our communities, Bishop Lawson said. Our words can promote understanding, tolerance, and unity, especially at times when tensions may arise. He urged religious leaders and their followers to reject intolerance, hate speech, provocation, and violence, instead promoting dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
A Call for National Unity
Bishop Lawson reminded religious leaders to remind their followers of their shared national identity, saying that regardless of their faith and traditions, they are first and foremost Ghanaians. Our diversity should unite us and not divide us, he emphasized.
