English language pass rate drops to 62.4 percent in 2026 WASSCE, WAEC says

Just 62.40 percent of candidates sitting the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination obtained passing grades between A1 and C6 in English Language.

Statistics released by the West African Examinations Council confirmed that 315,094 students scored within the A1 to C6 range in the subject this year.

The figure represents a clear decline from 2025, when 69.00 percent of candidates achieved passing grades in English Language.

According to the statistics provided by WAEC, candidate performance in English Language has fallen consistently over the four years covered by its official data.

In 2023, the proportion of candidates obtaining grades between A1 and C6 in English Language stood at 73.11 percent.
