Nepo baby makes extremely rare red carpet appearance with lookalike Oscar winner mom – who is she?

Alex Martin, the daughter of Oscar-winning actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg, has made a rare red carpet appearance alongside her mother at the premiere of The Whoopi Monologues, a Broadway show inspired by Goldberg's work. The 51-year-old actress, born in May 1974, is the beloved Hollywood actress and presenter's only child and has worked as an actress and producer in her own right.
Martin has worked with her mother in several films, including the wildly-popular musical Sister Act 2, where she played one of the school kids. However, in a statement that shut down nepo baby claims, Martin insisted that she had to audition for the role just like anyone else. "You've heard all these people talking about your mom… so, you may be Whoopi's daughter but you say there was no nepo baby situation when you got this role?" co-host Sunny Hostin asked Martin on The View in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary. Martin fired back: "No, there wasn't!" before adding: "I've heard you guys talk about this nepo baby stuff… I have yet to experience that, how about that?"
The family may now be rich and famous, but they have not always been stranger to struggle. Martin has spoken about the hardships they faced before Goldberg's career took off. "I know what it's like with the food stamps, because my mom has her [welfare] cards framed," Martin told TheGrio.com. Goldberg got her big break in the early '80s after she caught the attention of Steven Spielberg during her Broadway spell and he went on to cast her as the lead role in his critically acclaimed 1985 film, The Color Purple.
As her mother's career skyrocketed, Martin welcomed her first child, daughter Amara Skye Dean, in 1989 when she was just 16. Martin is also a mom-of-three, having welcomed two children – Jerzey, born in 1995, and Mason, born in 1998 – with her husband, Bernard Dean. Martin and her husband have been married three times, with the couple divorcing twice before tying the knot again in 2011.
The pair have made numerous public appearances together too, having recently stepped out for a joint appearance at the opening night of Goldberg's Broadway show, The Whoopi Monologues. The show, which reimagines Goldberg's 1984 one-woman show, is a testament to her enduring career and legacy. As Goldberg and Martin continue to make headlines, it remains to be seen what's next for this talented mother-daughter duo.
