NSMQ 2026: Saviour SHS returns to national championship after one-year absence

Saviour Senior High School has secured a return to the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship after emerging winners in the Eastern Regional qualifiers, ending a one-year absence from Ghana’s premier academic competition. The school accumulated 46 points to finish ahead of Nkwatia Presby SHS, which mounted a strong challenge but settled for second place with 41 points.

Triumphant Return for Saviour SHS

The victory marks a significant turnaround for Saviour SHS, which failed to qualify for the 2025 National Championship but has now reclaimed its place among the country’s top science and mathematics schools. This achievement is a testament to the school's dedication to academic excellence and its students' hard work.

The contest remained competitive throughout, with Nkwatia Presby SHS staying within striking distance of the eventual winners for much of the competition. However, Saviour SHS maintained its composure in the closing stages to preserve a five-point advantage and seal automatic qualification for the 2026 national finals.

Eastern Region Dominance Continues

Saviour SHS now joins the growing list of schools from the Eastern Region to have secured places at the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz National Championship as the regional qualifying series continues. The Eastern Region has been a powerhouse in the NSMQ, and this victory is a significant addition to the region's dominance.

The Eastern Regional qualifiers also saw Abuakwa State College place third with 32 points, while H’Mount Sinai SHS finished with 10 points. These results demonstrate the depth of talent in the Eastern Region, with multiple schools vying for a spot in the national championship.

What's Next for Saviour SHS and the NSMQ

For Nkwatia Presby SHS, the result will come as a disappointment after a spirited performance that kept the contest alive until the final stages, only to fall narrowly short of qualification. However, this setback will likely motivate the school to work even harder in preparation for the next NSMQ regional qualifiers.

As the regional qualifying series continues, fans and schools alike will be eagerly anticipating the next round of competition. The NSMQ is a premier academic competition that showcases the best of Ghana's science and mathematics talent, and Saviour SHS's return to the national stage is a testament to the country's commitment to education and excellence.
