New ‘poot’ fashion trend is dividing the internet: ‘Silly in my opinion’
A new fashion item called the "poot" is splitting opinion online, with some shoppers desperate to buy a pair and others calling the whole thing a waste of money.
A "poot" is a pair of pants that extends all the way down into a built-in boot, so the fabric and footwear are one continuous piece.
High fashion houses like Balenciaga and Loewe have already experimented with pant-boot illusions on the runway. Now the look has spread to TikTok.
How the trend took off
Fashion creators have been unboxing and styling the seamless leg coverings, and the videos have racked up plenty of reactions.

The response from the public has been mostly confusion. Influencers are showing off the sleek, streamlined silhouette, while critics are raising concerns.
Fashion commentator Annalise Salm said the maths does not add up for everyday shoppers.
Salm called the shoe "crazy" and described the item as "clearly a trend, not an investment piece".
"So expect that you're probably only going to wear it once, maybe twice, so the CPW (cost-per-wear) is crazy high," Salm told news.com.au.

Critics question sizing and durability
Content creator and aspiring fashion influencer Anthony agreed with Salm, saying the boots would be a quick trend.
He predicts buyers will "get over it" within a few weeks once the hype dies down.
"I don't think it's going to be something that's going to blow up, and I don't think it's going to last a while," he said.

Salm also pointed to a sizing problem, arguing the human body does not fit a one-size mould.
"Second thing to consider: leg height and foot size are two different dimensions," Salm explained.
"If you're a size 8 shoe but petite, how do the leggings fit? Vice versa, if you're a shoe size 5 but tall, how will that fit?"
Then there is the question of what happens when the boot wears out.

Shoes get scuffed, heels snap and soles wear down. With a poot, damage to the boot means the pants go too.
"Not to mention your shoe breaks? There go your pants as well," Salm added.
The comment sections weigh in
The debate has spilled into the comments, where reactions range from excitement to disbelief.

"I want it," one person wrote on TikTok.
Others were less convinced. "My first thought is how does sizing work on this thing," one commented with a crying emoji.
"Since when do we have to take our shoes off to go to the bathroom?" another asked.
The trend offers the uninterrupted, elongated leg line seen on high-fashion runways. For everyday wearers, though, the practical questions keep piling up.
