Education Ministry extends 2026 SHS placement exercise by one week

Out of 53,887 Ghanaian students eligible for self-placement in the 2026 Senior High School placement exercise, 33,726 have successfully chosen their schools. That leaves more than 20,000 candidates racing against an expiring deadline before the academic year begins.
The Ministry of Education announced a one-week extension for the placement exercise on Monday to clear the backlog. The extension gives families additional time to secure placements ahead of the September 18 reopening date.
The decision focuses on two main groups of students. Candidates completing self-placement through the online portal and those applying to change their residential status receive five additional days to resolve their paperwork.
Resolution centres across all sixteen regions will remain open from Monday to Friday. Staff
