Ghana Minority calls for audit of GH¢49m spent on South Africa evacuations

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, called for further scrutiny of government spending on the evacuation of Ghanaian citizens from South Africa. He questioned the accuracy of the financial figures associated with the operation and demanded a thorough examination of the funds spent.

The state allocated GH¢49 million for the evacuation effort. Assafuah raised concerns over whether the official total reflects the actual expenses incurred during the exercise.

Evacuation operations involving citizens stranded abroad require rapid coordination and public expenditure. State funds pay for emergency charter flights, temporary accommodation, medical checks, ground transportation, and administrative support provided by diplomatic staff.
