West African researchers work to translate Lassa fever findings into health policy

Lead authors, research mentors, and journal editors met in Abuja, Nigeria, on 17 August 2026 for a five-day workshop to convert regional conference findings into peer-reviewed research papers. The workshop ran through 21 August 2026 and focused on research presented at the 2025 ECOWAS International Lassa Fever Conference.

The West African Health Organisation organized the meeting alongside the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, regional experts, and institutional partners. The goal was to finalize research manuscripts for publication in the Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health.

Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness endemic to West Africa. The virus spreads to humans primarily through contact with food or household items contaminated by infected Mastomys rats.
