Hundreds gather in Klefe for new yam hailing carnival

Participants slid down the steep Klefe hills directly into the town center below, celebrating the arrival of the fresh harvest into community storage. Thousands of revellers and local residents flooded into Klefe junction, causing complete gridlock traffic across the main roads of the Ho Municipality in the Volta Region of Ghana.

The gathering launched the annual Klefe new yam hailing carnival, drawing traditional chiefs, community elders, and visitors from surrounding districts. The procession officially announced the arrival of the new yam, accompanied by traditional customs that form a major part of the wider yam festival season.

Street traffic came to a standstill as crowds occupied the roadways around the junction. People traveled into the municipality to join the public celebration, filling the streets on foot alongside vehicle convoys.
