Sikaa Presby Basic School gets new classroom block after years of leaking roofs
When heavy rainstorms hit the Nkoranza North District in the Bono East Region, the roof of the Sikaa Presby Basic School ripped completely off. Water poured into the classrooms, and teachers sent the pupils home. For years, heavy rains regularly interrupted lessons because the old school building leaked whenever storm clouds gathered.
The recurring weather damage forced children out of class and created a pattern of chronic absenteeism across the student body. Teaching and learning ground to a halt every time downpours battered the community.
Headmaster Richard Benjamin recalled the repeated disruptions that defined daily life at the institution before local government authorities intervened.
"For years, anytime it rained heavily, the classrooms leaked, and the pupils could not sit in class," Benjamin narrated.
